I had a strange analogy pop into my head today, but I liked it, and I feel that there is some truth to it- so I will share what I thought:

Life is like being a leaf on a tree. There are many different kinds of trees on this planet, so the type of tree is equivalent to the type of family we are born into- each member of the family is a leaf on a tree. If you take a picture of the same tree everyday for one full year, you will see that every single day the tree looks different, and that the leaves look different.

Every single day a tree grows and changes, and it will always continue to grow and change. In the Spring, the leaves of a tree start blooming. In the Summer, the leaves persist to grow. In the Fall, the leaves change colours, and then when it is close to Winter, the leaves fall off. The cycle repeats. Even though the state of the leaves and the state of a tree changes each season, but throughout the entire year, the tree always looks beautiful no matter what the state- and that is life; In the grand scheme of things, life is short, life is beautiful, and life goes on… it continues for generations after generations in the same cycle so it is important to make your time on this journey of life worthwhile.

Just like people, ALL trees go through the roller coaster of life… whether it be a harsh snow storm, or pouring rain— either way, the Sun always comes back. A tree would not be as beautiful if it did not constantly experience changes all year; We need some rain to grow and better ourselves, and we need some rain to see a rainbow.

In life people seem to get caught up in arguments, disagreements, and always seem to find differences among each other, and although all trees and each leaf on a tree are unique and different in their own way…however just like in PEOPLE, you will actually find more similarities than differences.

Life is like being a leaf on a tree… we are all part of a much bigger picture, and we are not alone- rather we are all connected and united.

Enjoy life and don’t forget to be kind and spread love.

Love,

Rushi xo

Hi everyone! So today is Mother’s Day, and I want to wish Happy Mom Day to all the great moms out there! <3 I have once heard the saying that “God can not be everywhere all at once, so he created mothers” and I definitely highly agree with that statement!

I have no words to describe mothers, because they are truly everything… I can talk for hours about how amazing they are, but instead I decided to write a short poem rather, to genuinely capture the essence of a mother. ย The poem I have wrote is not only dedicated to my mother, but also to my grandmother, who is the best grandmother in the entire universe- my grandmother is a great mother to my mom, and my mom is a great mother to me…it is all a big cycle you see; I hope a lot of you like this poem and can relate to it… so here we go! ๐Ÿ™‚

“THANKS MOM”:

You sleep through the alarm,
It could have been a bad start to a new day…
But your mom wakes you up;
“Thanks mom!” You forget to say.

You have no time to make lunch,
Being late is what you dread-
But your lunch is already packed…
As usual, mom is one step ahead.

You need to run out the house,
You quickly give the door a shove;
Your mom says “bye” and kisses your cheek,
But you forget to reciprocate mom’s love.

You come back home later that day,
Your mom needs help with a chore…
But you decide to rest instead,
You nap for hours and loudly snore.

Dinner is ready,
The great aroma is what wakes you up;
“Can I have some food?” you ask…
Your mom smiles and manifestly responds: “Yup!”

Before bed, You yell “I’m tired!”
“Goodnight sweetie” she yells back;
She makes sure you are tucked in-
She does this every night, before she hits her own sack.

This poem is not arbitrary,
It has a message that I planted;
What is the message you ask?
It is to not take our mothers for granted.

Our mothers teach and nurture us,
They are full of endless love and support;
All they do is give and give…
For anything, they are our best resort.

Mom you are the most selfless human I know,
You are the best what can I say;
I love you so very much, and to you I wish…
A Very Happy Mother’s Day!!!

ย  ย ย

We should treat our moms everyday as if it was Mother’s Day, because they truly deserve it. I love you Maa and I love you Didi!!! I hope you both (and everyone else) loved this poem! ๐Ÿ™‚

Be kind and spread love everyone!

Love,

Rushi xo

My little sister is a fantastic baker, she is a few years younger than me but her knowledge on food is quite vast; She made crepes from scratch for me last week— REALLY GOOD Nutella-banana crepes!

She makes her notorious pancakes for our family from time to time without using cream, butter or sugar and still manages to compose a delicious bowl of non-fat heaven!
I already know she is going to be an amazing cook when she is older because one noticeable fact about her is that, my sister always watches my mom cook and constantly asks my mom questions… whereas I never did; I was always just one to eat and not question the process ๐Ÿ˜‰ ๐Ÿ˜› Regardless, I think we can all agree that food is marvelous, and that one of the best feelings in the world is to satisfy your hunger!

One day I was REALLY hungry, and after watching a cake video on Youtube, I of course subsequently had the urge to make a cake myself. I may not be as talented as my sister in baking but that did not stop me… unfortunately what did stop me was the fact that I did not have all the ingredients for an easy-bake cake recipe. I then quickly googled easy-bake brownie recipes, and one recipe popped up which required a maximum of 4 ingredients- “BLESS MY SOUL!” I thought, “These brownies will be easy and fun to bake!”
However, something had definitely went wrong somewhere at some point, because when I took the brownies out of the oven, they were rock hard. I cannot explain the level of disappointment that I had in myself…I was not only frustrated because I could not figure out a simple 4- ingredient recipe, but I was also frustrated because I was super hungry. I was about to throw out all the brownies and feed myself some yogurt, but my mom came running down and asked what the “great smell” was. I explained to my mom that I was baking and burnt all the brownies, and advised her to ignore the “great smell” since no form of bakery would be served. My mom naturally ignored me and proceeded to try my rock hard brownies, and to my surprise she LOVED them! She told me that if I had just called my creation “chocolate cookies” instead of brownies, then the item would be incredible! I realized that I was so busy being frustrated that I had never even tried a bite of my “chocolate cookies”, and after I tried a bite, I recognized and accepted that it was not bad at all!

I came to understand that sometimes situations do not go the way you plan or the way you expect it go, but you have to see the positive aspect in all circumstances…you may think that the outcome is objectively negative, but that itself may just be your subjective opinion. With every mistake there is something to learn, and a new perspective to take!

With that being said, now tell me… which of these foods do you like?

  • Chocolate chip cookies
  • Popsicles
  • Nachos
  • Beer
  • Sandwiches
  • Tofu
  • Potato chips
  • Ice cream cones
  • Kellogg’s cereal
  • Coke
  • Pink lemonade
  • Hawaiian pizza
  • Yogurt

Well guess what? All these foods were mistakes and were invented by accident.

Be open to your mistakes, accept them and learn from them— try to look at situations from a different perspective, rather than honing in on the way you wanted the outcome to be… you may be missing a world of opportunities if you narrow your vision. Perspective is key!

Don’t forget to be kind and spread love!

Welcome back to yet another blog post everyone! Today’s post is going to be fun facts… about ME! ๐Ÿ˜€
I am going to list 10 random / weird facts about myself; this post will not be about my loving family and friends, or anything too personal- I do not intend to shove an autobiography or memoir down your throat, but rather let you all familiarize yourself with me first, by being informed fruitless facts! This post is going to be very light and fun with a great deal of pictures and videos, so lets dive right in!

Fact One (English): I can rotate my hand 360 degrees
Did you know an owl can rotate it’s head 270 degrees? Well I can do that too —with my HAND PLUS 90 DEGREES! I saw someone do it on television when I was younger, and I thought to myself: *I would be considered SO cool if I could do that* —and so 9-year-old Rushi taught herself to rotate her hand 360 degrees, and impress her friends… except no one was ever impressed. Regardless, I always thought this trick was cool, so watch this video of me to see the trick… and don’t forget to be impressed! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Fait Deux (French): I can sing the alphabet backwards in under 10 seconds
When I was in grade 7, my dad and I decided to have a competition on who could learn the alphabet backwards first. However, it didn’t take much time for both of us to learn the alphabet backwards, so we decided to make the competition more interesting by making it a competition on who could recite the alphabet backwards the fastest. Due to our competitive nature, we both learned how to recite the alphabet backwards in under 10 seconds, and because I had practiced it so many times when I was younger, it is now forever ingrained in my head… so thank you dad for this unnecessary knowledge / ability. Here is a video for people who want to see me in action:

Hecho Tres (Spanish): I love Cards
I can play cards any time, any day, and anywhere; I can play cards 24-7 and not get bored. I don’t know what it is, but I LOVE playing cards… and board games too! In fact, I actually prefer playing cards and board games with friends and family more than going out or having a ‘night out’; To be honest, I rarely go out— You will always find me at home or at school or at work, and I have strangely grown to love this routine.

เฆšเฆพเฆฐ (Bangla): Magic Obsession
Swiftly transitioning from cards, I also have a huge obsession with magic tricks! When I was younger, I use to watch this show on television that taught you fun magic tricks and I was in deep love with that show… I never missed an episode! Most children watched ‘Dora’ or ‘Barney’ growing up, and don’t get me wrong, I watched ‘Dora’ and ‘Barney’ growing up too, but alongside learning Spanish and the life lessons Barney taught, I also highly enjoyed learning how to fool people. ๐Ÿ™‚ Whenever my parents would invite guests to our home, the first thing I would do was say “Hi” and once the guests were seated, I would then proceed to show them a magic trick… and it wouldn’t just be any simple card trick, it would be really cool tricks that would blow your mind coming from a child! Sometimes it would involve liquids and glass cups, so I always had to be prepared and made sure the tricks always went smooth, I didn’t play around— I took my magic very seriously. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Looking back I feel kind of bad for my parents and our all our guests for “forcing” them to watch my magic, but at the same time I have no regrets! ๐Ÿ˜‰ The only regret I have is forgetting a lot of the tricks I learned; I had initially wrote them all down in a book (that is how dedicated I was), but when my family moved houses, that book disappeared from my life and I had got too busy to continue practicing my tricks. But to end this fact on a good note, I still remember some of the less difficult tricks I had learned as a child, and if I am Facebook friends with you, then you might have seen me recently upload a video of a magic trick that I did for my sister! ๐Ÿ™‚

์‚ฌ์‹ค 5 (Korean): Pool / Billiard Obsession
I realized that I love and am obsessed with a great number of commodities and activities… well here is another: POOL— or I guess the more formal name would be Billiards. Last year I got taught how to play it, and since then I have been playing it at least once a week at my school after class, and I loveeeee it!

Tatsache Sechs (German): I am very open-minded

I am an extremely open minded person when it comes to just about anything… clothes, food, culture, music, activities, movies / shows, shoes etc. I will give you multiple examples in different domains; Lets start with music… In high school I listened to Screamo music for about a week or two, and then decided it wasn’t for me. In terms of food, I am very open to trying ANYTHING, before I judge it— I have even tried pig intestines… it was actually extremely horrible and I will never try it again, but at least I tried it before I judged it! My mom was actually the one who ordered it, she saw a table next to us having it and said “If they can enjoy that, why can’t we?” So she is actually more open minded than I am, but I guess I get that trait from her. ๐Ÿ™‚ Moving onto movies / shows, my roommate from first year got me into watching Korean dramas and I actually love it! I wish I knew the language but I constantly read the subtitles and still enjoy it. I use to watch Japanese anime with subtitles too, and sometimes I watch the most random independent no “big name” films I come across; I of course love love love watching the mainstream Blockbuster Hollywood hits… Bollywood hits even, but I am a curious person who enjoys to go beyond that sometimes. Next domain is fashion, I have a variety of clothes in a variety of styles; I listed shoes as an example above because I am very open minded even with shoes! Please refer to the video below… I will however point out the fact that I was only able to wear those shoes twice in my life before my mom threw them out— it was probably for the best, and you will most likely agree after you watch this video hahaha ๐Ÿ˜€ :

Fatto Sette (Italian): I love drums
Even though I am musically gifted at playing the Triangle ๐Ÿ˜‰ ๐Ÿ˜› ๐Ÿ˜€ … an instrument I wish I knew how to play is the drums! I find drums very loud and powerful, something I identify my personality with ๐Ÿ˜‰ ๐Ÿ˜› hehehehe!

ไบ‹ๅฎžๅ…ซ (Chinese): Badminton is and always will be my favourite sport
Badminton is life! ๐Ÿ˜€ It was also the only one sport I got multiple awards from, when I was in high school, and that says a lot because I was pretty sedentary in high school… but clearly not for Badminton! ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ™‚

เคคเคฅเฅเคฏ เคจเฅŒ (Hindi): Rice and Seafood are my favourite
Rice and seafood are among my top favourite foods; I love myself some great fish and some nice warm rice, and I am not just talking about sushi… even though I do love sushi (I was destined to love sushi, it rhymes with my name)— but in all seriousness seafood is FAAAANNTASSTICCCC! I might as well also mention that I love hot sauce and put it on EVERYTHING, but I am not as intemperate as you may think; I work as a part-time waitress and I have seen some people go crazy with hot sauce and carry their own with them, I am not that excessive but I do love it!

Fakt dziesiฤ™ฤ‡ (Polish): My love for Harry Potter and art
It all started with an art contest in grade 6…our class was handed flyers for ‘National Engineering Week Art Contest’ which was a nation-wide art contest for children in upper elementary school- it was of course optional to enter, and the theme of the contest was to draw what we thought our future cities would look like- I don’t think anyone from my school ended up entering the contest, although I had heard numerous ideas about drawing “flying cars” from my classmates. I decided that I wanted to enter the contest; I had put a huge deal of thought on what I should draw…my drawing skills were okay, but I think what won the judges over was my idea: I made a city with battery powered cars, electric trains and electric buses, and then on the side of the paper beside my drawing, I wrote a huge paragraph explanation on how oil is going to run out one day and we won’t be able to rely on natural gas for transportation anymore, hence we will need alternatives like battery powered cars, electric trains and electric buses. I am sure my description was not as polished, but they understood my idea and I ended up placing second place in all of Canada! I still don’t know who first place was or what he/she drew, but coming in second place changed my life and made me the crazy Harry Potter loving woman I am today; The second place prize was winning the entire set of Harry Potter books, whereas the first place winner had a different prize. I am sure first place had an amazing prize too, but the winner definitely missed out on entering this completely different reality and intense journey of ‘The Boy Who Lived’, as well as entering the greatest and most united fandom in the history of fandoms. If I meet someone who loves Harry Potter, they are instantly a friend, I don’t even have to know their name. One of my first best friends in middle school and I actually became really good friends for the sole reason of bonding over Harry Potter. Another example is when I went to Europe with my family, we were with a tour group full of strangers from all over North America, it was beneficial to get to know everyone and all the kids my age since we would all constantly be together for the following two weeks… well let me tell you, Harry Potter was there to help me again in order to bond with and make new friends- It’s such an easy topic to converse on! Books are powerful tools… especially when you are interested in what you are reading, because that knowledge can go a long way- whether it expands your comprehension on different subject matters and benefits your cognitive skills or whether it simply aids you in your social life! ๐Ÿ˜‰ Either way, books are great and Hermione Granger is my favourite. ๐Ÿ™‚

BONUS FACT!
Fact labing (Filipino): Famous for Volunteering

I have come on the local newspaper (front page) multiple times when I was in high school because I LOVED volunteering and still do… giving is essentially receiving, it is the best feeling in the world knowing that you are doing something for the betterment of society. I believe that we all have a path in life, and that it all integrates into each and every single of us to give back to our planet in some way and form. And I believe that the younger we are, the easier it is to make an impact… so I would advise and want for each and every one of us to use our potential in some way, to make a contribution to humanity.

ย  ย ย

I think that was a good note to conclude on… I could talk all day about myself and give you 50 more useless facts such as…
FACT 12: My favourite colour is Yellow! It always has been since the day I was born and saw the sun rise! ๐Ÿ˜‰ ๐Ÿ˜› ๐Ÿ˜‰ ๐Ÿ˜› ๐Ÿ˜‰ ๐Ÿ˜›

These facts do not add any value to your life, so I am going to stop listing them before I think of more!

Anyway, that will be it for my post today! Hope you all got to know me a little bit more! Don’t forget to be kind and spread love!

Love,

One fun fact about me is that I love activating my sympathetic nervous system… I love a good adrenaline rush!

Exactly 3 years ago, around this time, I realized that I was turning 18… so I wanted to do something grand! I was becoming an adult; I was at the stage of a pupa (which is the transformation stage of an insect), like when the caterpillar is ready to break out of it’s cocoon and FLY! I was ready to fly…LITERALLY!

Turning 18 meant I was going to be a mature old woman, I had the power to buy lottery tickets (something which I still have not yet done to this day), I had the power to adopt a child (also something I have not yet done… possibly one day though), I had the power to… sign my own consent forms!? —I decided that on my 18th birthday, I would go SKYDIVING!!!

I had planned this idea 3 months before my birthday, which in hindsight was perfect, because it took 2 and a half months to convince my mom of the fact that I wanted to jump off a plane; I would like to point out that I did not actually need to convince my mom because I was turning into an adult and could sign my own consent forms, but since I am such a good girl and a good daughter, I ask my mom before doing anything major–even to this day ๐Ÿ˜‰ ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ˜€

2 and a half months later, my mom’s logic for allowing me to skydive was: “If I don’t let you do this now, then I know one day you will do it without telling me, and I don’t need that tension, so it’s better you go now with my permission… and you are only doing this once in your life…right!?” “YES MOM!” was what I had replied. I had also given her some statistics about how car accidents are more dangerous than jumping off of planes, and now she has a hard time giving me the wheel, but that’s besides the point!

I was initially going to go by myself, but around two weeks before my birthday, I thankfully found some family friends who were also crazy enough to jump off a plane; I persuaded them by saying something along the lines of “It’s ONE life! YOLO!” It was 2014 and I found myself very cool back then. Fortunately, they were a lot older and did not need emotional consent from their parents like I did ๐Ÿ™‚ I was set!

The day we went to jump was on the most gorgeous Saturday ever, it was exactly 2 days after my birthday so I was 18 years and 2 days old!
The day was very fun, the first thing they had us do when we went in was, they put us in a tiny dark room with a small monitor, and had us watch a video of everything that could have went wrong; it was me and 4 other older guys and all we did was laugh off the nervousness. We then did some formalities like fill out some forms and make our payments; I remember being ecstatic getting a discount because I was a university student…not officially at that time, but I showed them my letter of acceptance on g-mail through my phone screen and it was good enough to get me around $30 off—I was a happy girl.

We then did some training about how to jump, and how to land and XYZ and then we FINALLY got to meet our instructors (the people we jump off the plane with) and our camera men (other jumpers in charge of video-taping us)! Each of us had our own camera man and instructor, and let me tell you, these people were so cool, they were the most pure adrenaline junkies you could ever meet! We heard some AMAZING stories from the man who was in charge of taking my photos and videos. My instructor was really cool too, although I would like to point out that he had a broken foot… this is the man I was jumping off the plane with and he had a giant cast on his leg; I am going to link you guys the video of me skydiving, and I would love for you all to catch the fact that he had a giant cast… might I also add that LANDING is the hardest part, so having two functional feet would really help. If you also watch the video really closely, my instructor had put a screw in his mouth RIGHT BEFORE we were about to jump off the plane, and while we were in the air, he took the screw out of his mouth and chucked it away! I HAD NO CLUE, AND I DID NOT FIND OUT UNTIL I WATCHED MY OWN VIDEO— IF HE HAD BY ANY CHANCE CHOKED ON THAT SCREW, I WOULD NOT BE HERE AT THIS VERY MOMENT WRITING ON THIS BLOG RIGHT NOW. With that being said, I will however add that he was actually really funny and made me feel very comfortable on the plane because he was cracking jokes the entire time, and because of him, is why I have such a cool story to tell! So watch closely for these details in my video! ๐Ÿ˜€

The whole experience overall was highly memorable, and in a weird way it really does make you realize how short life can be, so do your best to make this one life worthwhile, that would be my take home message! (Which is the same message I had back in 2014… YOLO!)

Anyway, I have talked a lot, I hope you all enjoyed this story! I am going to peace out now, and I hope to see all you lovely people in my next post, but for now be kind and spread love!

Love,

Rushi xo

ย Hellooooooooo!

Welcome to my official blog as Miss Vaughan World 2017!!! It feels so strange yet amazing to say that I have a blog now, but I have come to understand that one surreal situation leads to another and snowballs into amazing events and experiences, when you enter Miss World Canada.

I guess I should formally introduce myself; My name is Rushi (rhymes with sushi), I am a 20 year old girl who loves love and wants to make her mark on this planet…and that basically sums me up! (…Just kidding!) I feel that my personality will be understood and shown more with the more posts I make, I don’t want to reveal everything about myself in one post, because then you all will know everything and won’t want to read my other posts now will you? I will however say that I am an undergraduate Science student at the University of Toronto, aspiring to get into medical school, and become a doctor. I love doctors because they do so much for our community, they not only provide health (a fundamental to comfortable living), but they are also educators, they inspire me to be my best, and I realized that I want to inspire others to be their best selves too; little did I realize that another great way to achieve my goal to inspire and help others was to enter Miss World Canada!

I initially entered Miss World Ontario earlier this year, which was the preliminary regional pageant, this is where I got crowned as Miss Vaughan World 2017 (hence my title), and this also where I found out that I qualified to compete nationally!

I am so excited to represent Ontario at Miss World Canada this July, and see all the lovely girls I became friends with at Miss Ontario! This is such an incredible journey and experience for me, it is my first time in the pageant world, so I am very happy to have this blog to share this journey with everyone (I know you are reading this mom!); I am also incredibly happy and proud to be an Ontarian, and even prouder to be a Canadian. I have so much love for this country, and am highly honoured (I see a red line being displayed underneath my spelling of the word ‘honoured’ but I will keep the red line there, because I want to spell it the Canadian way, because that’s how honoured I am) to even be a delegate/potential candidate to represent Canada globally!

Well I think that’s all I’ll say for now… I can honestly talk/blog forever, and I am aware that all I did for my first post was show excitement for Miss World Canada, but I feel that it was an accurate representation of my thoughts at this point of time. My other thoughts at this point of time also include worrying about final exams, studying and having slight stress, but these are emotions which I will display through my blog… another day. ๐Ÿ™‚ I hope to write blogs regularly so that everyone can get to know me at a more personal level and find out more about my daily life, and what I do, what I love, what I eat, what I am passionate about, and things I enjoy… but for now I am going to peace out! Please feel free to leave a comment, or put a joke in the comments section (I love reading jokes). Anyway, I am off to go study! Be kind and spread love!

Love,

Rushi xo
