My name is Alice Li, your Miss World Ontario 2018, and welcome to Ontario! It is such an honor to represent the largest and most populated province in Canada.
Growing up, I moved around a lot but never left Ontario. Some of the cities I’ve lived in include Toronto, Kingston, Ottawa, Guelph, Milton, Aurora, Sarnia, Oakville, and Mississauga. I currently live in the heart of downtown Toronto by Yonge&Dundas and I absolutely love it!
If I could be your tour guide for the day, I am definitely your expert on downtown Toronto. Let me take you through a day from the eyes of a local Torontonian!
Never start a day without the most important meal of the day! Plus, you’ve got to check out this neat little restaurant called H2Kitchen that has amazing smoothie bowls. Their entire menu is health-conscious and yummy at the same time. If I could afford to eat out for breakfast every day, I would be here every morning!
Things To Do
Does this background look familiar? It was the set for the Weeknd’s music video for “Secrets!” If you are visiting downtown Toronto for the first time, take a walk through Toronto Reference Library and browse the endless shelves of books! This is Toronto’s most iconic library and a great picture spot with the architecture. You can tell your friends that you visited the set of the Weeknd’s music video!
A taste of Toronto is a taste of diversity! You’ve got to try out some traditional dishes from Wuhan, China at PanPan Noodle Bar on Baldwin Street. It is such a hidden treasure that they don’t even have a website! All of their menu items are made from in-house recipes and it’s a secret! I would recommend you to try their signature noodle dish, but save room for a sticky rice crepe after!
Other Things to Do
Toronto may not be as big as New York, but our version of Times Square is Yonge and Dundas. Take photos in front of the outdoor foundations, the big H&M entrance, and the Flightstop sculpture of 60 Canadian Geese inside the Eaton Centre. It’s a one-stop shop and you’ll also find lots of souvenir shops here too. Our mall is not the biggest in the world, but it still stretches down a whole block, connecting 2 subway stations. That’s what I love the most about Toronto. It’s not too big and not too small!
A tour of downtown Toronto is not complete without a view of the skyline. You don’t need to do the common tourist trip to the CN Tower to achieve this. Why not get seated for a breathtaking sunset dinner on the patio of The One Eighty? It is all the way up on the 51st floor of the Manulife Centre and you can see the entire downtown area, all the way to Lake Ontario, including the CN Tower. The prices are a bit higher but it’s worth the one-time visit!
And there you have it! A day in downtown Toronto guided by your very own Miss World Ontario 2018. Hope you will come and visit my hometown someday!
