This week I have begun my journey to become the next Miss World Canada! I am from Essex-County, which is near Windsor, Ontario. I have made it a goal of mine to experience as many different things I possibly I can and so over the last year I have travelled to Iceland, competed in a body building competition, competed in a modelling competition and now I am competing in my first ever pageant! The first few days here at Miss World Canada 2017 have been amazing! I am overjoyed to be here competing amongst so many lovely and amazing delegates.

Today we woke up bright and early and took part in fitness testing at Mayfair Clubs in Toronto. I have played competitive sports for years and am currently a member of the University of Windsor Lancers track and field team and I must say this was some of the hardest testing I have done! We did 80 yard sled pushes of 120 pounds, maximum assisted chin-ups and maximum number of push-ups.. I will definitely be sore for the next few days! The staff were absolutely amazing and welcoming to all 57 of us. A huge thank you to the fitness test that helped us with our testing. By far the best part of today was the #saltwaterselfie that we were able to take an underwater video of ourselves (so make sure to check that out on my Facebook, Instagram or Twitter!!). Thank you to Alec and Raymi for helping us create our selfies! Make sure you also follow Mayfair Club Toronto (Instagram: @mayfairclubs, Twitter: @mymayfairclub) and Snappy Towels (Instagram: @snappytowels, Twitter: @snappytowels).

After lunch we finished off the day with a quite a few hours of stage training and opening number practice with Shaun Cuffie and Hollywood. If you’re going to be viewing the Miss World Canada pageant I promise you will not be disappointed! Just a reminder that People’s Choice award votes go live on the missworldcanada.net website tomorrow so if you have a chance get those votes in!

Thanks for following my blog and keeping up with me here in my time at the Miss World Canada 2017 pageant!!!

About Jurice
Born in Toronto, Ontario, now living in Pickering, Ontario.
Competing in pageants was not always in my plans. I joined my very first pageant when I was 17, which was called Miss Philippines Canada 2013. Placing 1st runner up I wanted to pursue pageantry even more.
I then started to walk in fashion shows where I learned to network. I have always been shy in regards to meeting new people but with the modelling and pageantry experience came confidence. I became more outgoing and started to socialize outside of my friend group.
In January 2017, I competed for the Miss Ontario World crown and won! Now this coming July 22 I will be competing for the Miss World Canada crown.
I believe I’m still learning new things everyday. Everyday has a new lesson to learn.
Being a proud Filipino Canadian I’m so lucky to be representing the most diverse province, Ontario.

Hello! I am super excited about Miss World 2017! I’ve been working extremely hard to prepare for the competition and am honored to be a part of Miss World Canada.

I proudly represent the City of Kawartha Lakes, which is filled with beautiful rivers and lakes, and has dozens of close knit communities within. My home town of Coboconk, within Kawartha Lakes celebrates being the highest point on the Trent Severn Waterway, and is home to Canada’s smallest jail.

When I am not working hard to prepare for Miss World 2017, I enjoy playing basketball, and work hard as a cashier at the local Home Hardware store. I also have a passion for travelling, and I feel very fortunate to have been able to travel to places such as China, Aruba, San Francisco, and Saint Lucia!

I am very excited for the upcoming Miss World competition this July in Toronto, Ontario! I can’t wait to meet dozens of new friends and experience this amazing opportunity while representing the beautiful City of Kawartha Lakes!

As a child, Alexa was blessed to be able to travel this world with my family while learning the amazing cultures that surround our planet. She has recently finished a climb to Base Camp of Mount Everest and in doing so, was able to push her limits physically and mentally. Alexa’s dedication to adventures and journeys are all the same; do not stop until you reach the top. However, throughout her travels, Alexa has and always will be distracted by her love for animals. Whether in South Africa’s Kruger National Park, the slums of Kathmandu or the parks of Sarnia Ontario, the beauty of animals always shines through.
Alexa’s choice to become a vegetarian had no relation to dietary needs, but instead a direct relation to her love and dedication to animal rights. Alexa has made the decision to fight against animal abuse and to be the voice they do not have. Animals are unable to protest or even protect themselves from cruelty. If we look at these animals as the beings that they are, you will find that our world has torturers, murders and abusers walking free; only because these animals have no animals. The real “animals” are those who ignore the cries and yelps from these innocent creatures. If they could fight for themselves, they would.

Hello everyone this is Sarah here! I’m so grateful and blessed to be meeting you all and representing my hometown of Oakville, as well as the entire region of Halton! I simply cannot put into words my excitement for this opportunity to compete at the Miss Canada World competition in July.

I’ll start from the beginning of how it all began…on June 30, 1993….Hehe just kidding.. Back in January I happened across an advertisement for the Miss Canada World Ontario competition that took place at the end of the month. Having absolutely no previous experience I gave it a few thoughts before applying. Not thinking I would actually be chosen I decided to apply for self motivation. To my delight I got a response back for an interview with Michelle! Feeling very nervous and excited I jumped to the opportunity…..unfortunately my camera didn’t work…luckily she could hear my voice, but I thought I had blown it….the next day I received the message that I had been selected to compete at provincials….my heart leapt!!

So you all probably want to know what drove me to enter such a huge competition with no experience..Well, for many years I battled with severe anxiety, depression, bullying and body image issues, including eating disorders. After spending many years overcoming these issues, and living with mental illness it drove me to motivate myself by doing something I never thought I could ever do. I also have known many people living with mental illness as well as friends of mine who have passed away from it. I always told myself that once I had built up enough strength I would do whatever I could to reach out and help those living with mental illness. By bringing awareness and sharing my own experiences I want to help others by showing them how much one can achieve, despite living with mental illness. This competition isn’t just something I’m doing for myself but I’m also doing it for everyone who lives with this on a daily basis, as well as those we’ve lost. Therefore my mandate for the competition is to spread awareness and end the taboo of mental illness across Canada. Regardless of how well I do at the competition, I want to do anything I can to help and will continue to do so after the competition.

A little bit about me… (Don’t worry I`ll keep it short hehe) I have been an artist my entire life and have always adored drawing and painting (especially animals). It`s a lifelong passion I`ve maintained which led me to my career in the film industry, building and painting sets as a scenic artist. I even take part in the construction side… (Which many people find hard to believe :P) I`ve always loved it and hopefully plan to develop this into storyboard production in film. (I’ve always been a doodler, so it`s perfect!! ) I graduated from Sheridan College with honours in the Fundamentals of Fitness leadership program in 2016, furthering my passion of physical health and nutrition. I also have been a lover of sports and outdoor activities, having been a figure skater from the age of 3 (the closest thing to competition I’ve done so far). As well as horseback riding, dancing and many outdoor adventure challenges, I’m just your average down to earth Canadian girl!

The day of my competition, I can’t express how nervous I was!! My heart was jumping out of my chest! I was surrounded by all of these amazing, talented girls and then there was just me… I had an amazing time, despite the nerves and my anxiety I made it through the 2 days, making some awesome friends, having a ball, doing the dance routines and learning all these amazing new skills. When I was finally on stage in front of everyone, I felt the most incredible rush while thinking “What did I get myself into???” and “I can’t believe I did this!!!” After going through my various outfits and feeling so excited on stage in my final gown I felt so relieved and proud that I actually pushed myself to do this. The moment I was crowned I didn’t even realise my name was called (yes, l was a bit mind boggled..) Immediately I was in shock! I never thought I would ever be chosen to move on to nationals and felt so blessed and emotional that I had come this far!! Now that I am representing Halton at nationals I feel so proud and blessed, knowing that I can hopefully make a difference in others lives that have experienced what I have over the years. I’m beyond elated to meet you all this July and I can’t wait to walk the stage at the Miss Canada World Competition!! It’s a moment that has changed me drastically and improved my confidence in ways I’ve never felt before. I hope I can make you all proud and thank you soooo much for taking your time to read my blog. See you in July!!!! <3

Hello Everyone!

My name is Karina and I am currently the winner of the Miss World Canada Provincial Competition title, Miss Eastern Ontario World. I am competing in July of 2017 against 50+ women from all across Canada for the National title of Miss World Canada in Toronto, Ontario!

I am currently a Firefighter for the City of Ottawa and I want to be involved in my community in every way possible. I am competing in the Miss World Canada competition to bring awareness about addiction, raise money for local charities, and to be a role model for young women in my community.

The recent fentanyl crisis in Canada has been devastating and it has swept across our nation taking the lives of innocent young people. As a firefighter, this has been a relevant issue that I have been exposed to in my everyday life. My platform for the Miss World Canada competition is to help teenage students in Canada who suffer from addiction issues, whether it be drugs or alcohol abuse. The platform is close to my heart, and I want to help students in high school and middle school who are suffering in Canada. This would entail travelling across the country to speak to young adults in school about addiction, educate people on the disease, and explain treatment options available for everyone.

At the end of the day, I want to show young women in my community that they can achieve anything they set their minds to, like becoming a firefighter or even the next Miss World Canada. I entered the Miss World Canada competition after I was asked by a woman in my city if I would rather be a model or a firefighter while I was on duty in my uniform. I want to show young women and girls across Canada that, “YOU can do both, and you CAN do it all”. As long as you follow your dreams you will always remain true to yourself, and you will never look back! Thank you for your support, and God bless.

The Miss World Canada competition is brimming with some of the most talented and beautiful women, but they’re more than pretty faces. Miss World Canada recently went under new directorship and is full of fresh young faces, so you can be excused for not knowing much about Miss South Western Ontario World, Joana.

Here are five things you didn’t know about the 25-year-old.

1. She is from Windsor, Ontario

If Joana win’s Miss World Canada she will be the second representative to compete at Miss World from Windsor, Ontario. The first Windsor representative was Lana Drouillard, who was crowned Miss World Canada in 1971.

2. She started her own business

Currently, Miss SWO is a private tutor in both English and Mathematics.  She started peer-to-peer tutoring with her mom when she was just 12 years old, and continued tutoring through high school and university. She see’s working with children as her calling and is passionate about being a role model for her students.  Her business is called My Clementine.

3. She considers cooking to be her greatest talent

The Miss World Canada competition does have a talent portion but cooking may not be an option for this Windsor native. Miss SWO says there is nothing she enjoys more than preparing delicious, healthy meals to satisfy her friends and family. She loves to cook cuisine from all over the world, especially traditional Chinese dishes.

4. She has travelled to every province in Canada

When she was thirteen years old she promised her teacher that she would visit every province in Canada. By age 21 she accomplished this goal, and now would like to visit each of the three territories. She hopes others will be inspired to travel through Canada and visit its natural wonders.

5. She is a triathlete

Joana loves staying in shape. She competed in her first triathlon in 2015 and is eager to swim, bike and run again.

Hello from Katherine, Miss Durham Region World 2017!

I am absolutely thrilled to be starting this blog and introducing myself to you as the newly (well…since January…I’m a bit late) crowned Miss Durham Region World 2017!

The first thing you should know is that although my name is Katherine, I will mostly be going by Katie.  I mean, I totally look more like a Katie, don’t you think?

The Miss World Ontario pageant was actually my FIRST. PAGEANT. EVER. And let me tell you, it was the most exciting, terrifying, fun, nerve-racking experience of my life. A pageant is so more more than I had ever imagined. It’s a lot harder and a lot more work than I thought. But it’s also been A LOT of fun, and I met some AMAZING girls, and I honestly can’t wait to do it all again in July for Miss World Canada!

I was absolutely in awe when my name was announced on stage that night, and I found out I had won a title and would be competing for the national title. At first I didn’t believe it! A shy girl from Oshawa, now on her way to compete for the unbelievable opportunity to represent ALL of Canada?! *explosion* MIND. BLOWN.

It’s an absolute honor to have been chosen to represent the Durham Region and all of its diversity and vibrancy that is so often overlooked.

I can’t wait to tell you more about myself and my pageant journey! Leave a comment and tell me about yourself! You can find out a bit more about me below 🙂

With love

Katie, Miss Durham Region World 2017

XOXOXO

About Me!

Education

I spent the last 4 years of my life studying Health Sciences at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology #shoutout and graduated with my BHSc with Highest Distinction last Thursday!

I will be going back in September to embark on the new journey I hope my Master’s will bring! My ultimate goal is to go to Medical school and study to become a pediatrician! I have always loved working with children and youth, and as you’ll soon discover, I have a vested interest in ensuring good health for everyone, starting from birth.

Hobbies, Interests, and Talents

I like to think I am very versatile in terms of what I like to do and try. I always want to try new things, and am usually pretty quick to catch on. Because of that, I have a really varied set of skills and interests such as…

  • Singing/ Karaoke/ embarrassing my family at the grocery store
  • Dancing/ dancing badly on purpose/ see above
  • Baking, especially cookies, but recently cakes. All from scratch. No cheating!
  • Photography/ seeing the world in the best light, but not being able to capture it
  • Soccer/ getting in people’s way (I play defense!)
  • Volunteering (I don’t know if this counts as a hobby, but I do it a lot and enjoy it!)
  • Making random crafts/drawings
  • Puzzles/ Puzzle games
  • Learning/ Researching science-y things!

And some very random talents such as…

  • I can lick my elbow. But only the right one. That left one always eludes me…
  • Making bad jokes/puns. But I mean really, the worse they are, the funnier it is!
  • Playing guitar + singing. Strummed, not stirred.
  • Figuring things out after already doing them the hard way… (e.g. I entered the codes to change font colours and then found the toolbar button…)
  • Juggling! But only 2…more than that, you must be a wizard or something
  • The Human Doughnut. My term for being able to roll myself into a ball…it looks weird. You don’t want to see it. Trust me.
  • I can burp the alphabet. I don’t. But I can.

Fun Facts! …Besides random talents

  • I was on a rowing team once! I was the coxie…yelling at people is not my thing
  • I have 3 siblings: 2 biological (older brother, younger sister) and 1 adopted (older brother)
  • My favourite colour is blue (not that blue, but close!)
  • I LOVE to travel! I mean, who doesn’t?
  • I’m really into sci-fi!
  • I’ve never blogged before! Thank you for being my guinea pigs! 😉
